Label your Zentangle with the title and composer of the piece that you chose for listening. How might your tangle patterns reflect what you hear in the music? How might the the overall mood of the music be reflected in your art? Is the music angry or tender, happy or sad, carefree or serious, etc? Fill in the spaces with simple, repeating patterns (called tangles).Īllow the music to inspire your art.Draw a free-flowing line that starts in one spot and loops its way around the square to create spaces in which to draw your patterns.Use a 10 cm squared paper and a fine-tipped black Sharpie (or anything you have to draw with).There are some guidelines for making a Zentangle. (You’d typically hear the same piece five times during the week at school.) As you listen, you are invited to create a Zentangle – an unplanned and abstract piece of art.
Plan on listening to the piece several times. It’s important that you be relaxed and focussed during the process of creating a Zentangle. Read the information that goes along with the music. There are so many worthwhile musical selections to choose from. Maybe it’ll be Carl Orff’s “Carmina Burana” or perhaps Maurice Ravel’s “Bolero”. Choose one from any of the selections on the Listening Program page. While learning from home, you’ll decide which Listening Program selection you would like to listen to this week. We’re all gathering back in our classrooms and settling in for the Listening Program announcement. Imagine the afternoon bell has just rung.
